World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.
If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will gain 3percent of its previous damage every time it is upgraded.
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to provide an additional stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained through crafting, buying from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must be at least upgraded to the blue level to allow a component to be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging ascended equipment or by completing a mission within the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

Each level of an item requires different components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require a certain ingredient to activate. This ingredient is obtained from completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed will result in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When the player upgrades an item, the base item is replaced with a different item of the same type. The same armor will be upgraded to a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This could be a drawback since the item may become more expensive even if you do not require it.
Upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to do this. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with the level 1 base, and a different set of bonus bonuses. This can be useful but it should not be used frequently as it could waste resources.
Some upgrades can increase their value and allow players to personalize their gear. The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to its value. For instance an item of common use could have five upgrades for a price of. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero quality items have lower costs per upgrade.
Premium items have different requirements for upgrading than standard gear--for instance, they may require fewer sowels but more minerals and erons.
